About the book

Eleanorah has never backed down from a challenge—but when she realizes she can’t save her family or her patients, she trades her stethoscope for a mustard-colored backpack and a one-way ticket, only to discover she can't outrun what she’s trying to escape.

For fans of Barbara Kingsolver, magical realism, and messy characters learning how to choose home over and over again.

About the Author

Mariah Friend is a former ICU nurse turned author. Like Eleanorah, she spent her twenties traveling across continents, searching for home in unexpected places. Her work explores the twin vocabularies of medicine and healing and the paradox of grieving while celebrating new life. Her poetry has appeared in The Walnut Branch, Poetry South, and Entwined: Motherhood and Creativity. She writes Heartbeats, a newsletter for creative caregivers, and currently lives among the Chattanooga hills with her husband and toddler.
